LaRae was raised on a dairy farm in Frederic,WI, and graduated from Frederic High School. After attending U of WI Superior from 1979-1981, she raised her two sons, Isaac & Simson. In 1990 she started her own business, The Balanced Body, offering therapeutic massage. Her business name changed to Balanced Body Balanced Life to incorporate her bodywork skills, feng shui and her love of gardening. Some of her hobbies include gardening, sailing, traveling, and playing with her Norwegian Elk Hound, Sufi. LaRae loves to travel with her husband, Kirk, and hand selects and collects pieces of nature to use in her art works. The Fjellman's 1.7 acre personal gardens are available for small intimate weddings/celebrations or touring garden clubs by appointment only. LaRae's passion is to help people reconnect with nature, find beauty, and enhance their lives using her intentional, functional Feng Shui art.

Why a Massage Therapist AND a Feng Shui Consultant/Artist?
AS a person who finds it necessary & rewarding to
re-invent oneself, I enrolled and graduated from a feng shui school in 2006
after studying feng shui for my own personal use since 1995. With the intention of expanding my
career, and still being of service to mankind, I wanted my new degree to be
something within the realm of my knowledge, talents and gifts.
While bodywork looks at energy and its blockages (both positive
and negative); Feng Shui looks at energy
and its blockages in one's environment (both positive and
negative).
Shortly
after graduating, I discovered a dilemma. Many Westerners shy away from
making traditional feng shui changes because they don’t relate to the
cure/adjustment – an example being Chinese coins and bamboo flutes. So I created and designed a line of
products that use feng shui principles, but also fit into modern Western homes
with-out someone walking in and saying, “Oh, you’ve made a feng shui
adjustment.” The criteria for my
products were they needed to be uniquely designed(not something manufactured on
an assembly line); green (for the most part); use natural resources without
destroying the ecological balance (sustainable); use nature’s constructive
cycle (The 5 Element Theory); be beautiful and yet have intention; and help
connect people back to the Earth.
As seen on
Oprah, Dr. Wayne Dyer has capitalized on a feng shui principle, Law of
Attraction, and written a book, “Change Your Thoughts – Change your Life. The cures/adjustments I create work
with this principle by inviting the purchaser to give the piece of art a job or
intention. Every time one looks at
it, it reminds one to think about what they are trying to attract or
change.

Everything I make has a little bit of soul, and a lot of heart; something you don't get off an assembly line.
